Poor Poor Puppy...

As we speak, poor Bentley Warren is slightly sedated and in recovery at Dr. Lester's office. We finally decided to bite the bullet and get him "fixed." He turned five last week, and we just decided it was time. We've had good intentions to breed him all these years, but we never did, so Sir Bentley Warren Christopher Lamar Bice Grey can now no longer be a baby daddy.

Bless his heart... he loves going to the vet, but probably not after today. Hopefully he won't hold it against us.

The good news is that now, friends, you can come to our house and worry a little less about that big dog. I can't promise he won't sniff your butt, but at least he will leave your leg alone. He means well, he really does. :)

St. Paddy's Parade

It was a gorgeous day in Jackson yesterday for the St. Paddy's Parade. And this year, we didn't have an engagement party to attend the night of the parade as we have in the past two years, so we had a blast staying downtown all day.

We started the day off with brunch at Katherine's house, then took a cab downtown to the parade route. After the parade, we stopped by Underground 119 for an after-party outside, then called it a day with a little Mexican for dinner before an early bedtime. Here are a few pics from the day. It's the best day to live in Jackson!

Ginger Kids

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, I thought I'd share the kids I "made" on www.makemebabies.com. This site provides hours of endless entertainment, but unfortunately, it consistently gave me ugly babies. Interestingly enough, there is a lot of red hair in my family in real life, so that part may ring true one day, but in the meantime... I present to you our make-believe babies.

God bless the little leprechauns. Yikes.

Shop Til You Drop

Oh, the dreaded garage sale... It’s been a few years since we had one of these, and I must say that it’s no easier the second time around. We spent a solid four hours Friday night pricing everything and getting the carport ready with tables, places to hang clothes, etc., which is exhausting by itself. Then about five hours later, the alarm clock went off bright and early signaling our 4:40 a.m. wake-up call.

I stumbled into the shower, made some coffee and preheated the oven for some cinnamon rolls. Then we immediately started bringing everything outside into the carport. Heavy lifting is not fun before daylight, I can assure you. While we didn’t have too many big items this time (mainly some artwork, a chair and ottoman, random odds and ends) we had enough clothes to fill the entire Salvation Army headquarters. Plus, our friend Claire had a lot of clothes to donate, so needless to say, we had a lot of clothes. A LOT.

Our first customer showed up a little after 6, and we had about eight or nine more total the rest of the morning. We did pretty well though, I think, and ended up making about $120. The best part was just getting rid of all that stuff, the majority of which we (I) couldn’t bear to part with for the last garage sale before we left Vicksburg. It’s been taking up precious closet space ever since.

We passed the time drinking a few mimosas, which is a garage sale must-have. It makes the morning a little more pleasant, and it makes all the junk a little easier to sell because it’s easier to strike up conversations with strangers. We also played a little dress-up, which was totally entertaining. My favorite item of the day was Claire’s “Oregon Trail” denim jacket that she won in a raffle. I didn't get a good photo of it, but it looks pretty close to this...

I can't believe it didn't sell. Wouldn't you have bought that for $1?

After our long morning of hard work, we were pretty worthless for the rest of the day. The Salvation Army truck came to pick up what didn’t sell, and we took a nap. That’s about as exciting as it gets. We agreed that it will be a looooong time before we have another one of those fun events. It’s just entirely too much fun to have in one weekend. :)

1,460 days as Mr. and Mrs.

Four years ago today, I committed my life as the wife of a man who could not be more perfect for me. It's been a wonderful journey through both the good and the bad. I feel like Year #4 is going to be a good one for us.

Here's to the future, D! I love you, and Happy Anniversary!!!

Girl Time

Derek has been in Chicago this week for work, so I've made the most of a few nights by myself had enjoyed two girls' nights out in a row. There's no better "me" time than when someone else is fixing your drinks and serving you dinner.

Tuesday night I met my friend Katie O. at Julep. She's in her second semester of medical school, and while she's been in Jackson since August, she hasn't been able to break away for a girls' night since she first moved here. Here's a pic of us from the summer (Cassidy, don't be jealous... we talked about how we wished you were there with us!)

Wednesday night I met my friends Katie S. and Ashley for margaritas and Mexican at La Cazuela. Katie was my college roommate (see pictures below from the SSMA Ball 2008 and Ashley's bachelorette party), and Ashley and I have become good friends through her sister, Christy. Both of these girls moved to Jackson in the past six months, and we've been trying to keep up our girls' nights at least once a month. I must say we're doing a pretty good job!

There is nothing in the world quite like quality girl time. I think it's a total necessity and to laugh that much is just good for your soul. It was a wonderful way to pass the time while Derek was gone. He's on his way back home today, so I'll be trading time with some of my favorite girls for time with my favorite boy this weekend. I can't complain about that either! :)

For every king, a throne...

We picked up Derek’s new “king chair” and ottoman on Friday, and I would say that it's definitely fit to serve as a throne for his majesty. We’ve had it for about four days now, and I think I’ve only sat in it for a total of maybe half an hour. He LOVES it. And, I must agree, it is a great-looking piece of furniture.

So of course after we brought it home and struggled for a good 20 minutes to get it inside the house, we spent the next hour or so rearranging the den. Now the red loveseat is all mine, and we have it situated perfectly for viewing the TV while napping which, as you know, is one of my favorite pastimes.

It’s amazing what a difference one new piece of furniture can make. It’s like we have a brand new room now. We spent almost the entire rest of the weekend at home just enjoying it. Saturday night we ordered Chinese and watched two back-to-back movies – “Sorority Row” and “The Ugly Truth.” Can’t say too much about either one, but I did thoroughly enjoy watching them reclined on old/new loveseat.

It was a quiet weekend, and I can’t complain, although I’m sure by now you’re thinking how boring we are (not to mention this poor blog), but that’s okay. Pretty soon our calendar will be packed again, so I’m just enjoying the down time.

Hopefully I can talk “the king” into letting Queen Elizabeth take over the throne every now and then… that lovely chair needs some breaking in, so I’ll be happy to work diligently in getting that job done. :)
